NEW INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY

1) flexiphone~ British designer Philip Pearce has come up with the Flexiphone concept, where it offers really out of this world specifications such as a battery which is capable of a full charge within 30 seconds, not to mention materials used to make this phone – hence its namesake. Imagine a phone that can be twisted (up to a reasonable degree) in different directions, making it the perfect phone to slip into your back jeans pocket without any fear or worry about it breaking or cracking. Of course, we do wonder the kind of flexible display which will see action here, and what about the memory card used inside – is it flexible, too?

2) Solar- and Wind-Powered ‘Walking House’ This strange little pod on hydraulic legs isn’t just an example of compact modern architecture – it’s actually a solar- and wind-powered home that can stroll at walking pace across all terrain. Designed by Copenhagen art collective N55, the computer-controlled walking house is meant to help people escape rising water levels during floods. The makers hope to see it become a viable option for low-income people living in flood-prone areas.

3) Speakers with Built-in Planters JVC, the electronics manufacturer came out with a very unique and green concept for a home audio system during the Tokyo Designers Week in 2008. The speakers are made out of so-called 'eco-plastic' and they had little planters that were built within the speakers to give a green and organic look. The speakers are modular and can be given various forms apart from the usual function of providing great sound quality. The series of such green speakers from JVC is called 'Kirikabu'.

4) Solar-Powered ‘Personal Massager’ The solar powered 'Personal Massager' is the world's first vibrator that works on solar energy! The charging process of this gadget take a good five hours of natural sunlight and can power the massager for 2 1/2 hours. In case of absence of sunlight, you can charge the device by using a 100W bulb - but that would take you a good 19 hours to fully charge the device.

5) People-Powered mp3 Player If you’re a fidgeter, this is the perfect gadget for you. Simply roll the RollOn along any surface and you’ll charge it up. Inspired by bicycles, this device functions like any other mp3 player, but it gives you battery-free listening enjoyment.

6) Replicating Robot A prototype robot is ready to show off its ability to replicate its own parts at this week’s Cheltenham Science Festival. The machine, called RepRap, prints 3D objects but rather than put ink on paper it lays down molten plastic which, after building up many layers creates three-dimensional objects.

7) Wind-Powered Gadget Charger We've seen lots of solar chargers before, and though sunshine on our shoulders makes us happy, it can't always be counted on to shine when we need it. Enter HYmini, an honest-to-goodness wind-powered charger for the list of small consumer electronics that have become familiar to alternative-energy-charging enthusiasts: iPods and mp3 players, cell phones, PDAs and digital cameras. It's due in stores at the end of the month.

8) Biodegradable Coffin Coffee Table At Brooklyn Designs this year, one of the most innovative ideas was from Charles Constantine of the Pratt Insitute. This beautiful “coffin table” is meant to bring death into the center of family life (literally) by being used as a coffee table until such time that it is needed, so that it serves two functions. Charles said that in this way the family could become comfortable with death and be a part of the final resting place of the person who has passed.

9) Coffee-Fueled Truck A commenter on Ben’s wood-powered truck post pointed us to a similar car hack. The truck above is also powered by a wood gas generator, except this one runs on coffee grounds. The Cafe Racer is a 1975 GMC pickup that essentially burns up used coffee to create a combustible gas. The gas is filtered on its way to the engine and, Viola, a caffeine-powered truck. It’s interesting to note that this and the last vehicle mentioned are promoting a specific fuel (wood and coffee grounds), since the onboard wood gas generators can gasify almost any type of combustible material.

10) CNPS11X EXTREME COOLER

The new cooler has a V-shaped dual-heatsink design that we've never seen before. It also features a powerful 350W cooling performance. The cooler is versatile, and has black-pearl nickel plating. It comes High Performance Super Thermal Grease ZM-STG2M and an ultra quiet 120mm Blue LED PWM fan.

The cooler uses Zalman's composite heatpipe solution, which consists of a dual layered heatpipe: the outer layer has axial grooves, and the inner layer is made of sintered (powdered) metal.
